- The most efficient methods for earning weapon experience in Destiny 2 are seasonal activities, the Altars of Sorrow on the Moon, and the Shuro-Chi encounter in the Last Wish Raid.
The Witch Queen expansion introduced crafting in Destiny 2 and Guardians will need to gain experience for each weapon. This process can be tedious at times, as certain Perks require that a gun be at a minimum level. Weapon crafting allows players to create their own perfect God Roll. Perks can be swapped out for different situations, such as Crucible or Grand Master Nightfalls. This process was made slightly easier when a change was made to immediately extract Deepsight weapons. Originally, Guardians needed to gain experience before progress for a Pattern could be obtained.
Most craftable weapons in Destiny 2 have a weapon Pattern that is broken into five parts. This means that players need to extract the data from five Deepsight copies of the gun. These are noted by a red border and can be earned from specific activities. For example, each season Introduces new weapons that can be crafted. Guardians can earn Deepsight from either the seasonal activities or by focusing on the seasonal vendor in the H.E.L.M. Once a weapon Pattern is completed, Guardians can craft the weapon at the Enclave on Mars. At level 1, these weapons are not better than most random rolls players will find during activities. However, the guns can become God Rolls with enough investment. There are many ways to earn weapon experience in Destiny 2, but there are certain methods that are more efficient.
7 Patrols & Public Events
Patrols and Public Events are number seven on the list because they are good for leveling weapons, just not as efficient as other methods. Experience is earned by defeating enemies and roaming around a destination can be unreliable. Some Patrols do not require combat at all and Public Events are on a timer. This means that the Guardians will have times when they are only defeating a few enemies.
6 Dungeons & Raids
Dungeons and Raids are a slightly better method for leveling weapons in Destiny 2. However, Guardians will typically want to bring their best gear into tough content. Both activities also take quite some time to complete. The enemy density in a Dungeon or a Raid will generally not give sufficient experience. While not the worst way to level a crafted weapon, players should stick to using their best guns.
5 Strikes, Crucible, & Gambit
Vanguard Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit in Destiny 2 are all good ways to earn weapon experience. As the three core activities in the game, most players will be completing these for various rewards each week. Guardians will get experience both by killing enemies and at the end of the game mode.
However, there are many factors that make this method less effective than the rest of this list. Activities can either last quite a while or end quickly. There are too many variables to make this a reliable source of experience.
4 Seasonal Activities
As mentioned previously, players can earn Deepsight versions of craftable weapons during seasonal activities. This means that Guardians can gain experience while potentially earning new Patterns. Most players will also be completing seasonal activities, meaning there will be little wait time between each activity. However, defeating foes can be difficult when other fireteam members are using powerful weapons.
3 Grasp of Avarice: Loot Cave
Guardians who own the 30th Anniversary Bundle in Destiny 2 can find the Loot Cave at the beginning of the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon. Normally, players descend into the Dungeon proper by depositing unique engrams by standing next to a crystal in the Loot Cave. These are gathered by defeating waves of Hive that spawn.
However, Guardians can wait outside the Loot Cave and continuously defeat the spawning Hive forever. While a bit tedious, this is a fairly effective way of gaining weapon experience. Players who do not have access to the Dungeon do not need to worry, as there are two more methods that are even more effective.
2 Moon: Altars of Sorrow
The Shadowkeep expansion introduced the Moon destination. Since then, players have been using the Altars of Sorrow any time they need to defeat waves of enemies. This is because the activity resets after completion and is always active on the Moon.
Additionally, the Altars of Sorrow have extremely high enemy density and these foes are easy to defeat. The activity is located in the top right of the Moon and is one of the best methods for gaining weapon experience.
1 Shuro-Chi
Shuro-Chi is by far the best method for earning weapon experience. This is a boss in the Last Wish Raid. Fortunately, players do not need to clear any priory parts of the activity. Instead, Guardians can access a wall in the Raid and enter a specific code to teleport to Shuro-Chi.
Each segment of the Raid has a set pattern and this can be entered each week to gain a checkpoint, as long as Guardians do not defeat the boss. During the Shuro-Chi encounter waves of Taken enemies will spawn.
These foes are incredibly easy to defeat and appear in large numbers. Once they stop spawning, wipe to the boss and Guardians will respawn at the checkpoint. Simply repeat the process to earn weapon experience. Players who do not want to enter the code can instead use a Checkpoint Bot in Destiny 2. This method is fast and efficient but can be rather tedious. However, Shuro-Chi is currently the fastest way to earn weapon experience in Destiny 2.
